New LSC SQM Equality and Diversity Standard

NEW EQUALITY and DIVERSITY Standard in the 2009 SQM

Firms should urgently review their Equality and Diversity Policies and Procedures in the light of these enhanced requirements.

It should be noted that the monitoring and training requirements become more onerous as the size of the organisation increases.

There are 3 Levels: LEVEL 1 (fewer than 5 employees); LEVEL 2 (5 to 49 Employees); and LEVEL 3 (50 or more Employees).

Remember this is across the organisation and is ALL staff.

At Level 3 there is a requirement that all managers and supervisors receive written instructions on equality in recruitment selections, training, promotion, discipline and dismissal of staff.

All managers and staff responsible for recruitment and selection must have undergone equality training by April 2011 at the latest

There also needs to be a monitoring system in the HR records of number of employees from different gender, disability, age, and ethnic group by grade and for the statistics to be reviewed annually.
